Practice and send off

Thanks to everyone who came out to last night's practice and send off for the Midwest Championship. Good luck to everyone competing and testing. Be sure to represent Eastern and UofM kendo well. Remember sutemi and hitting with zanshin and all will be well. It sounds so simple doesn't it? well it is. Stop thinking and attack. Kampai!

Midwest Championship

Hello everyone. Please take the time leading up to the tournament to focus on your own kendo. I know that many of you are testing and worried about competing but now is the time to focus on your kendo and what you can do to focus. The time for practice and worry is over and now you need to focus your attention on doing the kendo that you have learned. Please remember, as we continue to practice hard, that every extra push and every extra bit gets you closer to the goal you set for yourself. Never limit yourself by falling back on being tired, your senseis and sempai know when it is too much to handle and can tell when you are at the point of exhaustion so push yourself and then go one more. See you on the floor.

Barany sensei practice

It was great to visit with Barany sensei and the folks at MSU kendo. The practice was centered around footwork and kihon with a bit of jigeiko thrown in. Barany sensei has the most effective footwork I have seen in a long time. His strength is completely generated from his ability to control his movements from his legs. This allows for a straight forward progression even when attacking from an angle. This is something that everyone should be striving for, including myself. It was good to catch up with a friend and practice with a great sensei. See you tuesday.
